Pedal Power Helps Fund Hockey Tour
[printer-friendly page] [printer-friendly page]

Members of the Sixth Form Hockey team pedalled more than 100 miles to help fund a trip to South Africa.

The girls play a series of matches during the three week tour in summer 2008, but to make the 5,000 mile journey they had to raise more than £3,000 themselves. From cakes stalls, a quiz night and a tombola to naming a cuddly toy leopard, the girls steadily inched towards their target.

Four students boosted funds further with a sponsored pedal of 100 miles which they completed on exercise machines in the School Fitness Studio

During their time in South Africa the pupils will visit the 12,000 hectare Mabula Game Reserve, Robben Island and a traditional village that offers visitors the chance to experience African rural life.

The students will stay with host families during their tour and spend time in typical South African schools.
