Art And Design Students Visit London

The Sixth Form Fine Art and Graphic Design students traveled to London for a thrilling day discovering the masterpieces on offer in the City’s galleries. All students visited Tate Britain, home of British Art from 1500 to the present day.

The Fine Art students also attended the Royal Academy of Arts to see ‘From Russia: French and Russian Master Paintings 1870–1925’. This landmark exhibition presented modern masterpieces drawn from Russia’s principal collections: the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Art, the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, the State Hermitage Museum and the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg. The girls were delighted as many of the pieces on display were familiar from books they had viewed but artwork had not been on display out of Russia.

The Graphic Design students spent the afternoon at the National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery; studying key works in the development of Western Art.

The day was rounded off with a walk to Trafalgar Square to see Thomas Schütte’s 'Model for a Hotel', a sculpture displayed on the Fourth Plinth (pictured).
