Geographers headed ‘up north’ to gather first-hand information about the effects of tourism in the Lake District.

First stop for the Year 9s was Bowness, a sprawling tourist town on the shores of Lake Windermere. Here, students undertook a land mapping exercise concerning the impact of tourism on local shops and services.

The girls also interviewed visitors by the lakeside to establish how far they had travelled and by what means. Further investigations were also carried out to establish the impact of tourism on Windermere and its shoreline.
