The Head of Preparatory Department, Miss Sheila Coulter, was joined by Miss Sue Diamond, for a world record attempt involving 5km of pink ribbon.
The stunt celebrated the opening of the £14m Nightingale Centre and Genesis Centre at Wythenshawe. Despite downpours, hundreds of people participated in the world's longest ribbon-cutting ceremony, under the eye of an adjudicator from The Guinness Book of Records.
Pink balloons were also released as a tribute to loved ones lost to breast cancer.
The event is a culmination of many years of fund-raising and planning by The Genesis team, with around 25,000 patients a year expected to benefit.
