The Warburton Cup is a long held school tradition, awarded for musical distinction, to the Sixth former who, in the view of an external adjudicator, is the best solo instrumentalist to perform on the evening of the contest.
The competition was introduced in 1935 by Annie Warburton who was Head of Music at MHSG from 1925 – 1946. This year’s adjudicator was Christopher Stokes - organist and choir master at Manchester Cathedral.
A total of 14 girls entered and Helen Hutchinson, a talented singer and member of the National Youth Choir was runner up to Sarah. Both Sarah and Helen went on to perform at Speech Night.
