Congratulations to Alice Lighton, in Junior Sixth, who gained a highly sought-after place on the Senior Physics Challenge Course at Cambridge University.
Dr. Martin, Head of Physics, commented that the competition for places on this course had been particularly fierce. He added “This was the first time that Cambridge University had run the course, which was designed to show potential university students the importance of mathematics in the study of Physics. We were all extremely pleased that Alice was invited to attend what will now become an annual event.”

Alice reports on the experience:
“There were lectures on subjects such as kinetic theory, circular motion and special relativity, along with practical sessions. The problems set required more creative solutions than standard A-level questions. The visit to the university observatory was a real highlight. Fortunately, it was a clear night so we could see double stars, faroff galaxies and the Milky Way. We also had great fun launching rockets and punting…far trickier than it looks, but at least no-one ended up in the Cam!”
Alice has also secured an offer to study Physics at Oxford University. |
