14-year-old Amber Haque is leading a campaign to raise funds for the victims of the Pakistani earthquake.
Amber spoke alongside BBC North-West presenter Ranvir Singh at a fundraising dinner at Manchester’s Shimlah Pinks, which collected almost £11,000 for SOS Children’s Villages.
One year on from the earthquake, it is now known that 73,000 people lost their lives, four million people were displaced and 400,000 homes were destroyed.
Amber said: "Imagine the terror and fear of the children who have not only been orphaned, but who have also suffered terrible psychological scars. These children have to deal with all this, as well as survive the cold, hunger and pain of losing their parents."
The event was organised and sponsored by British Airways which has donated £500,000 to the appeal and has also given free air freight for emergency goods.
This is Amber’s second major public address, having first been asked to talk to the Greater Manchester Police Force’s Conference on the new procedures for Stop and Search.
