The Amnesty Group at MHSG organised and participated in a range of activities to raise awareness for “Protect the Human” week.
Together with a group of boys from Manchester Grammar School, the Manchester High girls shared a simple lunch of pitta bread and water, whilst viewing a slide show on the worsening situation in Darfur.
The selling of Amnesty’s “Protect the Human” badges proved to be a great success and, to show their strong feelings against torture and unjustified imprisonment, some girls volunteered to be bound and gagged.
The group also gave a powerful assembly about Amnesty’s “Keys of Freedom” campaign. Manchester High girls responded enthusiastically and were keen to take part in writing their names and school on paper keys made by the group, which will be sent to governments who detain people without trial.
All in all, the group raised around £350 and generated a great deal of interest throughout the School.
