The girls at the Institute of Directors

On November 22nd 2006, 4 Economics students took part in the annual Bank of England Interest Rate Competition : Target 2.0 at The Institute of Directors, Manchester.

The girls worked with Miss Jennings and Mr Randall to discuss the latest data from the Bank of England and prepare materials. They then produced a professional, 15 minute multimedia presentation to senior agents of the Bank of England. In the course of this presentation, the girls had to analyse and evaluate real economic data in order to recommend the interest rate for December 2006. They were then "grilled" about their decision and had to justify their analysis of the current economic climate. The competition was extremely tough and the girls were runners-up in the competition. They did an excellent job and were a real credit to Manchester High.

The girls thoroughly enjoyed the event and it enabled them to experience the monetary policy in action.
