The girls in the Preparatory Department enjoyed learning about birds when Graham Bessant from the Gauntlet Birds of Prey Centre brought some of his feathered friends to school.

Each year group learned about the life and habits of birds, including Tawny Owls, kestrels and vultures. The girls were able to stroke the Tawny owl and to watch it fly. The birds were very "talkative" during their visit and performed very well, flying low over the heads of the girls in the school hall. Some girls were able to catch birds on a heavy leather gauntlet.

Graham taught the girls about the nocturnal habits of owls ? interesting and useful information for Year 1 who are studying nocturnal animals as part of their science work on Light and Dark.

This was a happy and exciting event and one which promises to be an annual treat.
