ROME was not built in a day but the intrepid 35 MHSG students and 5 staff who took part in the Easter Italian trip managed to visit several cities and places of interest during only five days.
Under the direction of David Fenn, the Tour Director, the group's first stop was Rome where the sights visited included the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. The next day saw them travelling from their hotel in Frascati into Rome again for the complete Italian experience: the Vatican, St Peter's, the Forum, the Colosseum and much more (not forgetting the ice cream).

Day Three was Pompeii where the girls could see the places they had studied in Latin. Then something completely different: a mozzarella farm where a superb Italian lunch was followed by a demonstration of mozzarella making and, finally, some retail therapy (and ice cream) and back to the hotel in Sorrento.
Next, a day in Capri enjoying the funicular railway, a guided tour, shopping (and ice cream).
The last day of the trip was spent at the site of Herculaneum and a pleasant walk and guided tour up and around Mount Vesuvius.

The visit to Italy, organised by Miss Julie Welsby, was followed up with an Italian evening at School when 60 parents and girls enjoyed experiencing a little of the taste, sights and sounds of Italy. As well as pizza, mozzarella and ciabatta, guests were served olives from the farm and ricotta cheese cake made to the farm recipe. Laura Ajram and Rosie Collier gave a short presentation on their impressions of the trip and Miss Welsby gave a slide show account of the visit so that parents could see what their daughters had been up to for a week. |
