WELL DONE to Emily Carey (right) and Stephanie Tait (left) who have both achieved national success. Emily has been selected for the Under 17 England Academy for Netball and Stephanie has been identified as having exceptional ability by World Class Start for the British International Rowing organisation.
Stephanie describes how a potential Olympic athlete is chosen:
'The World Class Start & Potential Programme for British International Rowing came to our school, one of the 300 schools it visited, in an attempt to find potential rowers for the 2012 Olympics. We were put through various strength and fitness tests, from which I was chosen to attend a final assessment for the Programme at Agecroft Rowing Club. With around 10 other girls who had been chosen, I did the strength and fitness tests again along with an additional test on a rowing machine. My results from these tests showed I had exceptional ability, and with training could be very successful in the Olympic sport of rowing. World Class Start would now like to talk to me to discuss everything the Programme will entail, and therefore whether or not I am interested in developing this potential and joining the Programme.'
CONGRATULATIONS also, again, to Emily Carey along with Kelly Blackman and Jennifer Simmons who have been selected for the Manchester Athletics team to compete in the Greater Manchester Athletics Competition. Congratulations also go to our Intermediate Girls' Athletics team who came eighth in the North West Regional Athletics final.
