Manchester High School for Girls is the best value for money independent girls' school in the country according to an independent survey commissioned by the Halifax.

The survey of Britain's top 100 schools in 2006 has a simple method of dividing the cost of a term's fees in the Sixth Form against A levels points scored per candidate.

A report in the Sunday Times concluded: "Manchester stands out as a hotbed of academic excellence and good value, with the best value single sex schools in the country."

Head Mistress, Mrs Christine Lee-Jones, explained our excellent rating:  "The governors appreciate that many of our parents make quite considerable sacrifices to send their daughters to this school and our aim is to keep the fees as low as possible and our academic standards as high as possible. We are top of the table for value for money because we have invested heavily in excellent teachers and outstanding facilities yet have sound fiscal management.  This can be seen in our new Sports Hall: a multi-million pounds investment which will not impact on our fees. It is pleasing to know that we are setting the example."
