A Royal Appointment

Dance teacher, Mrs Watkins, was invited to St James’s Palace to attend the Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Ceremony.

Mrs Watkins is a North West Marshall for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme, and each year she helps a number of MHSG students achieve Bronze, Silver and Gold standard.

She said of the experience: “St James’s Palace is very impressive and I was fortunate enough to meet the Duke of Edinburgh in person. He was very interested to hear about how popular the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is at Manchester High.

There are two award ceremonies each year, and it was very fortunate that one of our former students, Clare Bernstein, was at this event to receive her Gold award.

It was a wonderful day and hopefully next year, if I am invited again, I will see more of our students receive their Gold awards.”
