Olympic Visit

Senior Sixth Formers Lily Tomkins and Lucie Hinton were delighted to get the chance to visit the new Olympic site for London 2012.

The opportunity arose when head teachers from both state and independent schools were invited to attend a conference on ‘Social Mobility’, organised by the 100 Group. Each head teacher (including Mrs Claire Hewitt) was asked to bring along two students who would get the chance to meet some renowned athletes and visit the Olympic site.

Both Lily and Lucie study A Level Physical Education so the trip was of particular interest to them, Lily explained: “Seeing the Olympic site was fantastic, especially the Athletics Stadium. It has a smaller capacity than I imagined; only around 90,000 seats. It was great to see the legacy plans for the development of the area after the Games which include building new schools and neighbourhoods. I felt extremely privileged to meet one of Britain's most successful Olympians, Tessa Sanderson, as well as meeting former world number two hurdler, Tony Jarrett, who was really funny. All in all it was a brilliant trip!
