Easter 2009 saw the Classics Department (including Head of Sixth Form and History teacher, Mrs Miles, and Religious Studies teacher, Mrs Diamond, as honorary members), together with 30 girls, embark on the Grand Tour of Classical sites in Greece.
In Athens, the highlights included visiting the Acropolis, the theatre of Dionysus, the National Archaeological Museum and experiencing the Athenian Metro system, the changing of the guard at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and the atmosphere of the Plaka where there was time to shop and enjoy the odd ice cream or two. Then it was on to Delphi to visit the spectacular site of the oracle of Apollo and marvel at the stunning scenery. This was followed by a visit to the home of the first Olympic Games, the sanctuary of Zeus at Olympia, Mycenae, the home of Agamemnon, and the spectacular theatre at Epidauros where four girls performed extracts from the Greek tragedies they had been studying and received rapturous applause.
Everyone agreed that their all too brief visit to Greece had been a wonderful experience!
