Widening Horizons

Extra-curricular opportunities which are an extremely important feature of life at Manchester High continue into the Sixth Form.

As well as being able to participate in a wide variety of societies, clubs and groups, Sixth formers are invited to apply for advertised internal leadership posts, many of which involve working with younger students and for those interested in journalism, there is the option of playing a role in the production of "Onward", the student run school magazine.

Business experience is gained from the challenge of the Young Enterprise Scheme and Sixth Formers have a leading role in the organization of large and small charity events.  There is a thriving branch of Amnesty International and the students organise their own faith societies.

Sixth formers can enjoy residential theatre visits to London and Stratford and collaborate with the students of Manchester Grammar School on various theatrical projects throughout the year.   They may also become members of the Thursday Singers, a longstanding partnership with Manchester Grammar.

Along with other students, Sixth Formers also take part in international sporting and cultural visits, Philosophy and debating societies, the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme, sports clubs, art exhibitions, concerts and school productions.  They also enjoy visits from speakers as diverse as charity representatives, MPs, journalists and motivational speakers.
